![]() ![]() Adam, of course, never even attempts to find a bride in his public life as a politician. It’s clear from this scene that something is going on between the two, and you can interpret Tadashi’s look as him struggling between his duty to the family and his feelings for Adam. His queerness is further made explicit in the first scene where we see Adam talk to his aunts, where they tell him he should “find a bride” soon, and the camera cuts to his secretary Tadashi looking down, clearly unhappy. SK8 THE INFINITY MANGA FREETo Adam, underground skating is the only way he can be free from the stifling expectations of his strict family and his career as a politician. The idea of having a “double life” is an extremely common trope in queer literature, where a queer person puts up a facade as an upstanding (heterosexual) person while participating in “taboo” activities behind everyone’s back. The key part is “S” being underground and illegal, so characters must not speak of “S” in public, and lead double-lives in their regular life vs their skating persona. The show draws clear parallels between Adam and other characters in the cast, which is why a queer interpretation of the characters is likely intentional. He is NOT queer-”coded”, he is straight-up gay as he explicitly talks about marrying dudes and calls Langa his "Eve". Adam is the most explicitly queer character in the show. ADAM & Tadashi and the repression of queernessįirstly, it’s most important to clarify that most “queerbaiting/bromance” accusations only involve Reki and Langa, and they ALWAYS fail to take into account Adam's character arc. ![]()
